Olives and tapenades

Some facts about olives

The olive tree blossoms in spring and the fruit begins to set in early summer. All olives start out green then gradually ripen through to dark. Green olives are ready to harvest late September, early October. Darker olives can be harvested from around mid November through to as late as March.

All olives are inedible straight from the tree (there are only one or two exceptions to this) so if you hear anyone saying :"I ate the olives fresh from the tree", you know they are telling a porky!

In the shop

In the Smart Good Food Shop you will find a fine selection of olives, from Greek Kalamata olives to green olives with herb and garlic, green olives stuffed with cream cheese, green olives stuffed with almond and pesto to black olives stuffed with cream cheese.

Did you know?

When we talk about tapenades, what are we actually talking about? Tapenade is a typical Mediterranean product. It is usually made from olives and olive oil, adding spices and other flavours for different tastes.

So when you after something different to serve on canapé's, crackers or just on your sandwich, trying one of our tapenades is a must! But don't stop there, you can flavour your meats with a tapenade or simply mix it in with your raw mince meat. Alternatively you can mix it in with your salad or use it on your cooked pasta.

Our tapenades are made from the best ingredients and we pride ourselves in the variety of flavours we offer you in the Smart Good Food Shop. Come and have a taste!
